A Fujitsu air conditioner leaking water indoors almost always has a blocked drain line, dirty filters causing the coil to ice up and then melt, or an indoor unit that isn’t level. Clean the filters first. Then check that the drain hose outside is dripping while the unit cools. If it isn’t, or the leak continues, book a technician to clear and flush the drain.

Switch the unit off if water is running near a power point or down the wall. Put a towel under the indoor unit. Then look at where the water is coming from.
- Dripping from the front or bottom edge: the drain pan is overflowing. The drain line is usually blocked.
- Ice on the coil or pipes: the coil has frozen. The leak starts when the ice melts.
- Water running out of one side: the unit may not be level.
Normal Water Production vs an Actual Leak
Every split system makes water when it cools. The indoor coil pulls moisture out of the air. That water collects in a drain pan and flows out through the drain hose.
On a humid day, the hose outside can drip steadily. That is normal. The problem starts when the water can’t get out and spills inside instead.
Common Causes of a Fujitsu AC Leaking Water Inside
Blocked Condensate Drain Line
This is a common cause. Dust, mould and slime build up in the drain line over time. Insects can also nest in the outside end. Once the line blocks, water backs up into the drain pan and overflows.
Check the outside end of the hose first. Make sure it isn’t buried in soil or crushed. Leave the inside of the line to a technician, who can clear and flush it without cracking the pan.
Dirty Air Filter Causing Frozen Coil
A clogged filter cuts the airflow across the coil. The coil then gets too cold and ices over. When the unit stops or cycles, the ice melts. The drain can’t cope with that much water at once, so it spills out.
Fujitsu asks owners to clean the filters regularly. About every two weeks is a good rule while the unit is in use.
Frozen Evaporator Coil from Low Refrigerant
If the coil keeps icing with clean filters, the system may be low on refrigerant. That means there is a leak. Only an ARCtick-licensed technician can find and repair it, then recharge the system.
Improper AC Installation Drainage Issue
The indoor unit must tilt slightly towards the drain side. The drain hose must also run downhill all the way. If either is wrong, water pools and escapes. This often shows up soon after a new installation.
Broken or Cracked Drain Pan
An old or damaged drain pan can crack. Water then drips even when the drain line is clear. A technician can confirm this and replace the pan.
Exceptionally High Humidity Overwhelming the Drain System
On very muggy days, the unit makes far more water than usual. A drain that is partly blocked may cope most of the year and then overflow in one humid week. Treat it as a sign the drain needs cleaning.

In cooling mode, the drain hose near the outdoor unit drips. In heating mode, the outdoor unit melts frost during defrost. You may see water pour from underneath it and steam rise. Both are normal.
Outdoor Unit Water That Needs Attention
Pools of oily water, ice that never clears, or water leaking where it could reach electrical parts all need a technician. So does a hissing sound near the pipes.
Step-by-Step Fix for a Fujitsu Air Conditioner Leaking Water
- Switch the unit off and put a towel underneath.
- Remove and clean the filters. Let them dry before refitting.
- If you can see ice, run the unit in fan mode until it has fully melted.
- Find the drain hose outside. Check the end is clear and the hose isn’t kinked or looped upward.
- Turn the unit back on in cool mode. After 15 minutes, check that water drips from the hose outside.
- If there is no water outside, or the leak starts again, stop using the unit and book a technician.
What Not to Do
Don’t push wire or tools into the drain from inside the unit. Don’t spray cleaner into the coil. Both can damage parts that are costly to replace.
